Drawings to Specification [Class 140] Compound sheet material for electric insulation is made by subjecting to heat and pressure an assembly comprising a core of asbestos fibrous material impregnated with a thermosetting synthetic resin faced on one or both sides with one or more sheets of asbestos paper treated with an aqueous solution of ammonium orthophosphate or primary aluminium phos. phate, with, if desired, some free orthophosphoric acid. The core may consist of layers of asbestos cloth coated and impregnated with phenol- or urea-aldehyde resin, and united under heat and pressure either before or simultaneously with the application of the surface sheets. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a core of heavy interwoven asbestos or asbestos-glass fabric impregnated with phosphate and faced with phosphate-treated asbestos paper, and a laminated material consisting of alternate layers of phosphate-treated asbestos paper and asbestosglass fabric, both forms being moulded under heat and pressure. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
