Abstract
606.809. Coated wire fabrics; compound sheet materials. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 19, 1945, No. 15583. Convention date, June 22, 1944. [Class 140] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXVI] Electrically conductive sheet material suitable for gaskets consists of a yieldable material 6 such as natural or synthetic or polymerized cashew-nut-shell oil reinforced by a plurality of metallic wires of sinuous or wave-like form which may be interwoven as shown at 7 and 8 embedded therein with the crests of successive curves of the wires exposed on and flush with opposite surfaces of the sheet. If desired, the exposed surfaces of the wire may be flattened as at 10, by grinding away a portion of the metal. The engaging portions of the interwoven wires may be soldered. The reinforcing sheet materials may be made by placing the wire screen between two sheets of the yieldable material, subjecting the screen and sheets of material to heat and pressure thereby pressing the material of the sheets into the wire interstices and also vulcanizing the yieldable material. The bends of the wire in the surface of the composite sheet material are exposed by abraiding the surface of the yieldable material by sanding or brushing. If desired, the yieldable material 6 may be applied to the screen by dipping or by running the screen through calender rolls.
