Abstract
598,334. Pliers. HODELL, C. B. Sept. 1, 1945, No. 22531. [Class 61 (ii)] A pair of gripping or expanding pliers has three or more jaws 7, 8, 9 operated by handles 14, 15 attached to two jaws 7, 9 only (Fig. 1). The pivoting part 16 of each jaw is triangular in cross-section and is mounted on one arm 12 of a star-shaped pivot. The camming action of the faces of the pivoting parts causes the third or further jaws 8, without handles, to be actuated when the handles 14, 15 are moved together or apart. The skew setting of the jaws with respect to the handles enables the pliers to act as crossed handle (Fig. 1) or uncrossed (Fig. 4) pliers. In a modification, the pivots may be mounted on a ring so that a cable &c. may be passed through and a band &c. applied.
