Abstract

597,373. Arc lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HAWKINS, F. S. Aug. 17, 1945, No. 21036. [Class 39 (i)] An arc lamp of the high intensity type includes a plurality of negative electrodes each associated with a separate ballast resistance and all cooperating in parallel with a single positive electrode. In Fig. 2, two negative electrodes 1, 2 face the tip 5 of the horizontal positive electrode 6 and are symmetrically disposed at 30 degrees to the horizontal and 100 degrees to each other. In another arrangement, three negative electrodes are disposed, two at 30 degrees above and the third at 70 degrees below the horizontal plane in which lies the positive electrode. In another, two negative electrodes lie parallel to each other at right angles to the positive electrode. In a fourth arrangement, two negative electrodes at 100 degrees to each other lie at 30 degrees inclination to the horizontally disposed positive electrode. The positive electrode has a highly mineralised core of relatively large diameter, i.e. greater than one-third of that of the diameter.
