Abstract
550,972. Discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (International Standard Electric Corporation). Jan. 23, 1942, No. 976. [Class 39 (i)] A squirrel-cage electrode structure comprises two or more groups 7, 7a, 8, 8a of flat rectangular wire loops, each loop consisting of two straight parallel longitudinal portions 1, 1a united by a straight transverse portion 7, each group comprising two or more loops arranged in parallel planes symmetrically with respect to an axis of symmetry, the longitudinal portions being generators of a cylinder about the axis of symmetry, and the transverse portions of each group lying in one plane normal to the axis. By this arrangement the thickness of the end portion 9 is reduced, and the capacity reduced and made more uniform, over the prior arrangement in which all loops overlap in the axis of symmetry. There may be four groups as shown, each parallel to planes at 45 degrees to each other. Each group may contain three or four loops, the inner loops being made broader than the outer loops to maintain the cylindrical form.
