Abstract

596,771. Power hammers. CHAMBERSBURG ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 19971. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1944. [Class 83 (iv)] In a power hammer comprising an anvil 10 and a head 12 connected by side frames, each of which consists of a lower section 17 having guides for the hammer 13 and an upper section 16 affording a seat for the head, the sections are connected by a pivot 18 extending from the front to the back of the machine parallel to the upper surface of the anvil and means are provided for resisting the relative movement of the sections in a direction causing separation of the upper ends of the lower sections. The sections 17 are secured to the anvil 10 by spring bolts 14, 15 and the sections 16 are secured to the head by spring bolts 22, the upper ends of the latter sections being either convex or concave to seat within corresponding curved portions on the underside of the head. Inward movement of the sides at the pivot is prevented by replaceable wear plates 19, while outward movement is resisted by spring bolts 23.
