Abstract
596,313. Taps or cocks. WILTSHIRE, W. J. Feb. 23, 1945, No. 4551. [Class 135] To take up wear between the deformable cork liner 3, Fig. 1, and the plug 7 of a spigot tap for a cask, the body 1 of the tap is formed with a tapered slot 4 for a wooden block 8, the inner face of which is shaped to the contour of the outer surface of the liner and which is forced against the liner by a wedge 8a. In a modification, the taper in the slot is dispensed with and a pair of tapered wedges are employed. In another arrangement, the wedge is replaced by an oval section plug which when turned compresses the liner with a cam-like action. In a further modification, a plate 8c, Fig. 4, is held against the liner 3 by a spring.
