Abstract
The process of obtaining nuclearly substituted or unsubstituted N - arylsulphonylthioureas which is described in Specification 595,771 and which comprises the addition of hydrogen sulphide to the corresponding arylsulphonylcyanamides, is carried out in an anhydrous medium and in the presence of anhydrous ammonia or of an anhydrous organic base or of a substance capable of generating nacent sulphur under the conditions of the reaction. Specified substances for this purpose are flowers of sulphur, sodium polysulphide, sodium thioantimonate, the disulphide of tetramethylthiouram, thionyl chloride and the peroxides such as hydrogen, sodium or benzoyl peroxides. In examples: (1) an absolute alcoholic solution of diethylamine, p - aminobenzenesulphonyl - cyanide and the disulphide of tetramethylthiouram is saturated with hydrogen sulphide to form N-(p-aminobenzenesulphonyl)-thiourea; (2) as in example (1), but using ammonia as the base and thionyl chloride as the sulphur yielding compound. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) prepared by saturating with H2S an alcohol solution of p-aminobenzenesulphonylcyanamide containing anhydrous ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. The product is worked up as in example (1).
