[Class 38 (i)] A socket holder for a thermionic valve or other plug-in device comprises an insulating body 21 containing the contacts 20 and a metal support 10, 11 that extends across one or both faces of the body 21 so as to form a screen or an electric closure for the hole in a metallic panel in which the holder is mounted. Each of the plates 10, 11 may have a cup-shaped recess 12, 13 formed with holes 14, 15 corresponding to bosses 23, 24 round the contact entry apertures 22, 26. If both plates 10, 11 do not extend completely across the surface of the body 21, one of them may have an annular flange fitting over a recessed edge of the body to retain it in the support. One of the plates may be integral with the metallic panel and one may be combined with a clip to grip a metal screening can of the valve. The external screening 12, 13 may be combined with a metallic liner 33 for the usual keyhole-shaped guide slot 32, the liner being formed from a strip bent to polygonal form and having tags 34 that are bent over and soldered to the top and bottom of the screening 12, 13 or, where one of the screening surfaces is omitted, one set of tags 34 are gripped between the remaining screening surface and the body 21. Transverse screens embedded in the insulating body as described in Specification 595,185 may be attached to the surface screening or formed integral with it and may be moulded into the insulation or located between separate sectors of insulation built up as described in Specification 595,187. In one form the surface screening may be bent into folds that extend upwards and downwards between the body sectors to form a substantially continuous radial screen. The contacts may be formed as described in Specification 595,186 by folding a strip to provide a soldering tag 28, contact grips 30 and securing tags 31 located in holes 22 having a wide upper part 25 and a narrow lower part 26 with locating shoulders 27 between them. When certain contacts are to be earthed, the soldering tags 28 may be bent over and soldered to the screen, or to tags bent up from the screen, or the lower screening plate may be formed with recesses to fit over and enclose the bosses 23 having holes only large enough for the passage of the tags 28 which are then soldered in the holes.
