Abstract
595,003. Indicating-apparatus. SIMPSON, R. Nov. 14, 1944, No. 22482. Convention date, Feb. 2. [Class 106 (iv)] An illuminating device for indicating apparatus is described embodied in an electrical instrument such as a milliameter and comprises an external source of light, means for conducting light from the source and for distributing light uniformly over the indicating means. A moving coil is mounted adjacent to a pair of opposed poles 32a of a permanent magnet 30 and carries a pointer 45 to indicate the units to be measured by co-operating with indicia on a dial plate 43, preferably opaque, the indication being viewed through a transparent member 22 which together with a cylindrical member 11 (which may be of insulation) and an insulating back wall 15 encloses the instrument. A lightconducting member 46 made preferably of a suitable transparent plastic, has a cylindrical stem 47 which passes through and is held by a cylindrical bore 49 in the rear wall 15 and which has a plane rear surface 48. At the front the stem portion is formed integrally with a disc portion 51 in contact with the rear surface of the dial 43 and a cylindrical portion 53 abutting the front cover 22, held in position by the friction fit of a bezel ring 26. On the rear side the disc portion and cylindrical portions are joined by curved portions and on the front side a symmetrical tapered depression 60 is formed at the centre. An external source of light illuminates the plane rear surface 48 of the member 47 which conducts light to the cylindrical portion 26 and thence illuminates the front of the dial 43 and the pointer 45.
