[Classes 106 (iii) and 106 (iv)] An indicating - instrument, for example a speedometer, comprises a casing 1 having a hinged cover 3 containing a scale, and an electric signal lamp 8 or a lamp for illuminating the scale is fitted in the hinged cover and the lamp circuit comprises contacts 14 and 15 which are so arranged that the circuit is closed by closing the cover 3 and is broken by opening the cover. The signal lamp may be arranged in an aperture behind the disc carrying the scale which is made of translucent material, so that when the 'circuit of the signal lamp is closed the scale in the region of the aperture is illuminated.
