Abstract
594,905. Tenderising food. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (U.S. Slicing Machine Co.). June 11, 1945, No. 14699. [Class 28 (ii)] A machine for tenderising food, e.g. by rotated knives 20 or teeth, is provided with an ultra-violet lamp 17 to dstroy any bacteria &c. on the food or in the machine. The food is fed in at the funnel 19. The machine has a removable cover 12 pivoted on hinges 14 and containing an ultra-violet U-shaped lamp 17. On lifting up the cover 12, an adjustable tappet 31 is freed from contact with lever 29 pivoted at 28 and allows the spring of a limit switch 23 to move a finger 30 outwardly to open the switch and rock the lever 29 counter-clockwise, thus breaking the circuit to motor 25, Fig. 7, and to the transformer 45 of the lamp 17. The circuit may be manually closed while the cover is open by sliding a knob 36, whereby a ramp 42, Fig. 6, on a slide block 39 contacts and pivots the lever 29 to close the switch 23, thus reconnecting the motor 26. The lamp circuit, however, has been previously cut out by hand operating a switch 44. In case the operator forgets to switch off the light by hand switch 44, an alternative switch 46 may be provided coupled to and operated by the slide block 39 at the same time as it closes the switch 23 so that the motor only can be started while the cover is open.
