Abstract

747,684. Eggs, opening. SANDERS, C. M., and MERCER, W. S. Nov. 12, 1954 [Aug. 17, 1953], No. 22576/53. Class 28(2). The top of an egg is cut off by a knife 9 swung in against the top between a pair of closely spaced plates I and 3 which have concentric apertures 2 and 4 the upper plate 3 having a rim 7 to retain the cut off top. The knife 9 is pivoted at 8 on one of the plates. The lower plate 1 has an abutment 12 for the thumb when the handle 6 is grasped, the cutting being done by the fingers of the other hand pressing the twisted end 10 of the knife 3 towards another finger abutment 13 on the plate 1. The knife is provided with a projecting corner 14 to pierce the shell first. The lower aperture 2 is chamfered to fit the slope of an egg.
