Abstract

594,737. Refrigerators. HAMILTON, H. O. June 19, 1945, No. 15599. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXV] A refrigerator cabinet is constructed of preformed hollow sections of sheet metal and comprises a door 1, right and left hand sides 2, 3, a back 4, and top and base parts, each section . being filled with a heat insulating material 8 and, with the exception of the door 1, constructed for assembly by means of angularly disposed stepped scarf joints such that the sections are interconnected by bolts 11, passing diagonally through bolster plates 12, screwed into nuts 13 welded to the abutting section. Gaskets 14 are provided at the junctions of the sectional units 2-4, while the sealing of the door is effected by rubber beading 17 fitted over the flared ends 16 of flanges 15 formed by extensions of the metal sheets 7. The door 1 is provided with a recessed handle 18, a forward pull on which causes a latch bar 26 to disengage from a latch 30, mounted on the side wall 2. The cabinet pedestal comprises metal skirt plates infolded at their lower part to form a resilient foot rail, and a detachable front panel while the refrigerating unit is mounted on a platform resiliently suspended from the base section. Fluid conduits 48 are built within the back section 4 and are provided with coupling unions for fitment to the refrigerating unit.
