Abstract
594,497. Photo-electric colorimeters. EVANS ELECTROSELENIUM,Ltd., and EVANS, A. E. June 19, 1945, No. 15571. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] A colorimeter comprises a container built up from rectangular slabs 7, 8, 9, Fig. 5, having a light source 2 at one end, a photo-electric cell 3 at the other end, a filter 5 and adjustable diaphragm 4 between them and a recess for the reception of a test tube 6 containing fluid. In use, a test tube of water and a filter of colour complementary to that of the fluid to be tested are inserted, and the diaphragm adjusted to give a full scale reading on a meter. A standard solution then replaces the water to give a meter reading for comparison with the reading when the test fluid is substituted for the standard solution. The diaphragm preferably consists of two plates 4, Fig. 6, urged together by springs 15 bearing on stud 19, and pressed apart by bell crank levers 16 pivoted at 18 and adjusted by plate 20. The light source 2 may be mounted at right angles to the axis and its housing be common to several containers.
