Abstract

In a method of making a hollow valve for an internal combustion engine, (see Group XXII), the final step consists in closing an opening in the valve head by a plug made of an alloy comprising chromium 12-21 per cent, nickel 10-14 per cent, silicon 1.5-3 per cent, manganese 0.4-1 per cent, carbon 0.3-0.5 per cent, molybdenum 0-3 per cent and the remainder iron or an alloy comprising chromium 25-30 per cent, tungsten 3-5 per cent, silicon 0.5-3 per cent, carbon 0.5-2 per cent and the remainder cobalt.
