Abstract
594,248. Electrolytic surface oxidation of wires, bands, or the like. COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES, & CAMARGUE. April 30, 1945, No. 10841. Convention date, June 11, 1943. [Class 41] The wire &c. to be oxidized is passed through two compartments 1, 2 separated by an insulating partition 3 having an orifice 7 of just the size necessary to pass the wire. Current is passed between the wire and an electrode 8 in the compartment 2, electrical connection to the wire being made by a conductive pulley wheel 5 in the compartment 1. Both compartments may contain the same electrolyte. Alternatively, the first may contain pure water, an acid or alkali washing bath or an insulating bath. The electrical supply may be taken from a transformer 9 or it may have a continuous or pulsating voltage in which case the wire is connected as anode. There may also be provided one or more intermediate compartments containing, for example, a washing or an insulating bath.
