Abstract

1296497 Current collectors GLANZSTOFF AG 20 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13467/70 Heading H2E [Also in Division C7] In an installation for electrochemical deposition on wires, current is passed to the wires (in any apparatus within the installation) by means of granules of a good electrical conductor. The installation comprises apparatus for the deposition process and may also comprise apparatus for electrolytic descaling, electrolytic degreasing (cathodically or anodically) and electrolytic polishing. The granules may be of Cu, Ni, Al, C or alloys such as Monel, Hastelloy (both these terms are Trade Marks), brass or steel. The granules may be brass cubes, balls or cylinders or Hastelloy cubes. As shown, end walls 1 of a non-conductive container have vertical slots through which wires are guided whilst contacted by granules 4 of a good conductor supplied with current from an electrode 2a. Contact containers may be arranged in front of and behind an. electrolytic treatment bath. In the Examples, steel wires are patented at 900‹ C., quenched to 500‹ C. in a Pb bath, electrolytically pickled as cathodes in 15% HCl and thereafter electrolytically plated with brass from an alkaline cyanide solution using a Cu/Zn (70/30) anode.
