593,927. Gas generating cartridges. THOMSON, T., SHUFFLEBOTHAM, J. S., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 20, 1945, No. 15700. [Class 9 (i)] An electrically - ignitable power gas-generating blank cartridge, for instance, for internal - combustion engine starter cartridges, having a partition 6 of combustible material extending across the cartridge and having a coating of deflagrating powder 7 ignited directly from a fuzehead 11 is provided with a tubular spacing member 13 made of combustible material resting on the cartridge base and supporting the partition 6 clear of the fuze-head in order to avoid premature ignition by friction between the powder coating and the fuze-head when the cartridge is being loaded. The powder 7 ignites the combustible charge 5 around the fuze-head and thus the main charge 14. The spacing member 13 may be made of smokeless powder or celluloid. The fuze-head is protected by a rubber sheath 12. The main combustible charge 14 is a longitudinally perforated rod of smokeless powder.
