[Class 23] Grains are fed by a shoot 22 to a central opening 38 of a rotary impeller A and are driven by centrifugal force against an impact ring 23. The broken material passes into a delivery shoot attached at 13, movement in which is controlled by a rotated wing feeder. The impeller comprises a number of approximately radial vanes secured between two discs 31, 36 and is mounted on a shaft 7. Main vanes 40 extend from the inlet eye to the periphery and intermediate vanes 41 are welded to the main vanes at a short distance from the inlet eye and extend to the periphery where all the vanes are evenly spaced. Grain is received between the main vanes and half of this is passed through holes 44 in the main vanes on to the intermediate vanes. To ensure this, the holes 44 have upstanding flanges 45. The inlet eye is surrounded by a cone 38 fitted with radial vanes 39. The impact surface of the ring 23 is flared outwardly on both sides from a central plane and is serrated as at 30a. A guard 46 prevents disintegrated material, discharged from the upper portion of the impact ring, from entering the inlet eye.
