593,295. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., TURNER, H. C., and CHAMBERLAIN, J. June 1, 1945, No. 13835. [Class 37] A group of rectifier elements, for example, of the copper oxide or selenium type, is wholly or partly encased in a mouldable insulating material, other than a thermoplastic material, which contracts on setting to provide a pressure contact between the elements. In an example, urea or phenol formaldehyde types of materials are applied by pressure or transfer moulding To minimize heating of the elements during moulding, the materials are preferably preheated and a cooling fluid tube may be inserted through co-operating apertures in the elements. Subsequent apertures in the casing can be filled with cement. Cold setting thermosetting plastic materials, as of the above types with acid hardeners, can be applied at room temperature in a volatile solvent, for example, by brushing or spraying.
