(Class 44] A metal hose clip has a cylindrical-shaped housing 3 to which one end 2 of a band 1 is secured, the other end 4 having serrations 5 for engagement by a worm or screw 9 which is so mounted in the housing that when turned to expand the band, it moves axially until disengaged from the serrations. Preferably the worm has a plain extension 12 passing freely for sliding and rotary movement through the bore in a washer 8 which is secured, e.g. by clinching, to one end of the housing 3. A collar 14 is secured to the free end of the extension and contacts the washer 8 when the worm is disengaged from the serrations. The housing 3 surrounds the worm over more than five-eighths of its circumference to prevent rocking, and has on its underside a casing 6 of rectangular crosssection for the ends 2, 4 of the band 1. The head 10 of the worm 9 bears against the end of the housing 3 when being turned, whereby the thrust is taken directly by the housing. To slacken the band 1 considerably, the worm is turned counter-clockwise while pressure is applied to the end 15 of the extension 12 until the worm is disengaged from the serrations 5, retaining the pressure on the extension. The end 4 of the band 1 can then be drawn through the casing 6. To tighten the band again, pressure is removed from the extension and applied to the worm head 10, the worm being turned clockwise to re-engage the serrations. It is thus unnecessary to provide serrations to the end of the band, and insertion of the end 4 into the casing is facilitated, the worm being moved axially into engagement with the serrations.
