Abstract
593,232. Baking-apparatus. WESTMORELAND, A. G. July 13, 1945, No. 17896. [Class 28 (i)] Hot-plate goods, e.g., crumpets, are baked on hot-plates (e.g. 10a or 11a) which form part of a conveyer (10 or 11) moving in synchronism with another conveyer 12 carrying the batter holding rings, the batter resting on or being near to the hot-plates. The raw material, e.g., batter, is placed in moulds or rings 12a open at top and bottom, carried by an endless conveyer 12, the lower run of which contracts the upper run of the hot-plates 10a of an endless conveyer 10, so that the bottom of the crumpet is first cooked. The moulds may have bevelled sides the minimum diameter being at the middle of the height to hold in the crumpet. At the end of the bottom cooking, a fixed parting knife 16 separates the bottom of the crumpets from the hot-plates as the conveyers 12 and 10 diverge at the left end of the machine. A band support 14 and a plate support 15 prevents the crumpet from falling out of the moulds until they reach the upper run when they contact the hot-plates 11a of the upper run of a shorter endless conveyer 11, the hot-plates of which cook the other side of the crumpet. Thereafter another fixed parting knife frees the cooked crumpet from the hot plates. The crumpets are ejected from their moulds by the projections 20 of a sprung rotary frame 19 so that they drop down to a delivery conveyer 13 for packing. The upper runs of each hotplate conveyor are heated, e.g., by gas burners or electric radiants 21 with thermostatic control. The apparatus may be cased in as much as convenient.
