Abstract

593,035. Lubricating. ASPIN, F. M. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2529. [Class 12 (iii)] The supply of pressure lubricant to an internalcombustion engine is controlled in accordance with the engine speed and with the load by a control means inserted in the main pressure oil duct, such means comprising a pressure-reducing valve controlled in part by a diaphragm loaded in accordance with the engine speed and a cut-off valve moving in a closing or opening direction in accordance with decrease or increase of load. The valves are housed in a block 10 inserted in the main pressure-oil line. The pressure oil enters by pipe 11 and passes by the waist 14 of a piston valve 13 to an axial bore 13b therein and so to the top end face of such valve which therefore acts as a pressure-reducing valve. The valve 13 is loaded by a diaphragm 17 subjected on the under-side to the pressure of cooling fluid circulated by the engine pump (and so reflecting the speed of the engine) so that the pressure reduction effected by the valve 13 is so modified by the engine speed as to increase the oil pressure with an increase of engine speed. The cutoff valve 20 situated after the pressure-reducing valve is also of waisted cylinder form but is without the axial duct and is controlled by a diaphragm 22 the under-side of which is subjected to the sub-atmospheric pressure in the induction pipe of the engine (so reflecting the engine load), whereby the cut-off valve 20 is moved to reduce the oil supply when the load decreases. The pressure-reducing valve 13 may adjustably open a release port instead of throttling the oil inlet. Specification 566,305 is referred to.
