592,772. Vehicle spring-suspensions. HUDLASS, L May 30, 1945, No. 13548. [Class 108 (ii)] Relates to spring-suspensions for baby or invalid carriages, ambulances &c. of the type in which each wheel is carried by an arm pivotally secured to.. the vehicle so that it can rock away. from its normal. substantially horizontal position against the action of spring means. According to the invention, the arm is formed with or is secured to a shaft having a threaded and rotatable engagement with a member fixed to the vehicle to provide the pivotal connection for the arm. As shown in Fig. 1, each wheel 10 of a baby-carriage is. mounted on a stub-axle 9 on a cranked extension 8 of a shaft 6 or 7, the inner end of which has a screwthread engagement with a plug 4, Fig. 2, fixed in a tubular member 3 forming one end of a rectangular frame 1 to which the body of the carriage is rigidly attached. Lugs 11 on the extensions 8 on each side of the carriage are connected by a spring 13. The frame 1 may be dispensed with and each tube 3 directly connected to the body by lugs, or, as shown in Fig. 5, by a flange 15 at one end and a collar 16 threadedly engaging the tube at the other end, each cranked arm in the latter case having an. extension 18 for connection to the spring. The spring 13 may be replaced by a pair of compression springs housed in a common tube and each acting between one end of the tube and a piston on a rod coupled'to the adjacent crank arm, or each crank arm may be connected, to piston-and-cylinder form of air cushion.
