[Class 108 (ii)] In a spring suspension for steering wheels of the kind in which a spring supported carrier B of the steering pivot (not shown) is pivotally connected at its upper and lower ends to two longitudinally disposed links D, D' which are pivotally connected at their outer ends to the chassis frame or vehicle body, one link D extending forwardly and the other D<1> rearwardly, the links are so disposed that when one link tends to move its pivot axis with the carrier in one horizontal direction the other link will tend to move its pivot axis with the carrier in the same direction and by substantially the same amount to maintain the castor angle of the steering pivot constant. When the axle is somewhat below its normal vertical position in relation to the vehicle body the rearward link D<1> is arranged to be horizontal and the forward link is inclined downwardly towards the carrier. Alternatively the link D may be horizontal for the same axle position with the link D<1> inclined downwardly towards the carrier. In either construction as one link moves towards, the other link moves away from, the horizontal. The carrier may be directly supported by coil or other spring or, as shown, the outer ends of the links may be splined to torsion rods E, E' housed in tubes held at their outer ends in brackets f, f', the inner ends of the torsion rods being splined to the interior central region of the tubes. The carrier may be constituted by the steering pivot itself or may be a separate mounting carrying the pivot. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification, 569,492.
