Abstract
592,085. Hand looms; beaming; carpet making. FLORJANCIC, P., and BORAL, E. Oct, 9, 1944, No. 19372. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iv)] The hand loom described in Specification 586,221 is so constructed that, in conjunction with additional parts, it can be re-assembled as a beaming apparatus or a carpet knotting frame. For beaming (Figs. 3, 4), battens 58, to carry bobbins, are mounted on a rear cross bar of the loom and the shuttle race 27 and reed 29 are removed from the slay 28 and mounted, together with a member 62, on the front corner posts 49, the shedding mechanism being preferably also removed. The yarns pass through the reed, round the member 62, and through the reed again, and are wound on the beam 32 in conical sections produced by a threaded spindle 66 traversing the beam as it is rotated. Alternatively, the battens 58, the reed 29, and the member 62 may be mounted on a carriage supported by the shuttle race and a cross bar of the loom so as to be transversely displaceable after winding each section. In a modification, Fig. 11, a reed 84, a brake 83, lease rods 81, and an expansion reed 80, which may be carried by a common support, are mounted on the loom. The expansion reed, Fig. 10, has dents 99 carried by compression springs 98 disposed between nuts 95 on shafts having right and left hand threads. The shafts are coupled together by a chain drive 103 and the spacing of the dents can be adjusted by a hand wheel 100 provided with a resilient pawl 101, the setting being indicated by a pointer 104. A frame for carpet knotting, Fig. 8, is formed by pairs 48, 49 of the loom corner posts, loom cross bars 1, 47, and additional members 72, 74 and rollers 75, 76. The cross bars 26 of the loom frame, Fig. 7, are tabular and have studs 52 secured in their ends by split pins 53 for ease in dismantling.
