[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] A gas turbine driving a compressor is controlled through a servomotor by the discharge pressure of the compressor. The throttle valve 62 in the intake duct 46 of the turbine is operated by a servomotor 68, the control piston 74 of which is balanced between the pressure in a diaphragm 78 and a spring 80. Any change of pressure in the diaphragm causes the control piston to move and allow pressure oil to pass from the pipe 84 to one side or the other of the piston 66 and so open or close the valve 62 to alter the speed of the turbine and bring the pressure at the discharge of the compressor back to the required value. The pressure required can be pre-set by means of the hand wheel 82 which increases or decreases the compression in the spring 80. The throttle valve 62 can be replaced by means whereby some of the turbine nozzles are cut in or out of service. In a plant employing high pressure *and low pressure turbines driving high and lowpressure compressors, the discharge pressure of both compressors may be used conjointly to control the low-pressure turbine.
