Abstract
591,768. Gyroscopic apparatus. JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. March 17, 1944, No. 5029. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1943. [Class 97 (iii)] Means for erecting a gyro vertical comprising an eccentrically weighted cap 12 rotatably mounted, e.g. by spindle 14 and bearings 15, 16, in a compartment 5 fixed below the rotor casing 4 and provided with a tangentially arranged air jet 20. In operation the air driving the rotor 1 is exhausted through the compartment 5 and jet 20, which is disposed on cap 12 at 90 degrees from the eccentric weight 19 and causes the cap 12 to rotate slowly in a counterclockwise direction. On tilting of the gyro the eccentric weight arrests the rotation of the cap 12 and gives rise to erecting torques.
