463,396. Gyroscopic apparatus. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. June 20, 1935, No. 3891/37. Convention date, July 11, 1934. Divided out of 463,332. [Class 97 (iii)] In a directional gyroscope in which the rotor supporting frame 31 is pivoted in the second frame 3 on air-film bearings, air jet reaction means are provided for erecting the rotor supporting frame 31 with respect to the frame 3. Preferably air-film bearings are provided for mounting the rotor 38 in the frame 31, the frame 31 in the frame 3, and the frame 3 in the casing 1, as described in Specification 463,332. The ports 39, 391 for the air jets are provided in the button 22 secured to the frame 3 and are differentially uncovered by a semicircular cut-away portion 41 on the cut member 21 of the air-film bearing, when the frame 31 tilts relatively to the frame 3.
