Abstract

603,038. Gyroscopic apparatus. PULLIN & CO., Ltd., R. B., and BENNETT, G. A. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30842. [Class 97 (iii)] To preserve the balance of an electrically - driven gyroscope, in which the gyro-wheel 7 and motor rotor 8 are mounted on a common shaft 10, notwithstanding wear of the motor brushes 14, 15, the latter are disposed in a plane perpendicular to the shaft 10 and containing the pivot axis 21, 22 of the inner gimbal frame 1 with their combined centre of mass coinciding with the point of intersection of the pivot axes of the complete gyro unit. The frame 1 carries the tubular field magnet 13 which is magnetized along a diameter. The bearing 5 may be axially adjusted by means of the back-nut 6. Balance weights 30 are mounted on threaded rods carried by the frame 1.
