Abstract
511,742. Gyroscopic apparatus. AKTIEBOLAGET NORDISKA ARMATURFABRIKERNA. Dec. 7, 1938, No. 35699. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1937. [Class 97 (iii)] A gyroscopic inclinometer, particularly for aircraft, comprises a plate 5 which is universally mounted by a gimbal ring 4 in a sealed casing 3 and carries two rotor bearing frames 14 pivoting about normally horizontal axes 15-15', at right angles, the plate 5 and the two frames 14 being provided with differentially controlled reaction jets, 13, 13<1> and 26; 26<1> respectively, which apply correcting torques upon relative movement of the plate 5 and frames 14 or upon deviation of the plate 5 from the horizontal. The second frame 14 (not shown in the Figure) is mounted below the plate 5 and is similar to the frame 14 shown mounted above the plate. The jets 13, 13<1>, 26, 26<1>, and.reaction jets for spinning the rotors 16 are fed with compressed air supplied through the gimbal bearings and passages 10, 11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 25, 19. The jets 13, 13' are'differentially obturated by baffles 24 fixed on the frames 14 upon relative movement between the latter and the plate 5. The jets 26, 26<1> are differentially obturated by pivoted pendulous shutters (not shown) when the plate 5 deviates from the horizontal. Weights 32 slidably mounted on the depending stems 33 make the system pendulous. When the air pressure is applied to start up the rotors and feed the reaction jets the weights 32 are caused to rise on the stems until the system is in neutral equilibrium. The indications of the instrument are viewed through the window 2.
