591,533. Sound receiving and transmitting devices. HUGHES & SON, Ltd., H., SPROULE, D. O., and HUGHES, A. J. March 22. 1939, No. 9080. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A directional sound wave apparatus comprises an electro-acoustic element rigidly fixed to or on a structure or vehicle and located at the focus or along the foeal axis of an acoustic reflector mounted for rotation about the focus or focal axis, electrical conductors connected to the element and means for rotating the reflector retatively to the element without disturbing the focal relations between the reflector and the element. As shown, the element a, which may be a transmitter or a receiver, is connected by supports b, b<1> to fixed members c and lies along the focal axis of a parabolic reflector e having sleeves f, f<1> rotatably monted on the supports b, b<1>. The sleeve f<1> has a worm-wheel g driven by a worm g<1> from a motor h. The conductors d from the element a are located within the support. b<1> and with the leads j from the motor h pass through a junction box k and a water-tight connection to a cable l. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the reflector is paraboloidal, and in a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), a paraboloidal reflector is independently rotatable about two axes passing through the focus of the paraboloid.
