Abstract
591,482. Froth - flotation cells. BRITISH GECO ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. (General Engineering Co., Inc.). May 10, 1945, No. 11745. [Class 82 (ii)] In a froth-flotation cell a shroud of cup-like form located beneath an impeller having stirring elements on its underside has its rim closely adjacent to the stirring elements, means are provided for introducing air into the shroud and baffles are arranged between the impeller and the cell walls with spaces at each end of the baffles. As shown, an impeller 2 having shallow radially disposed stirring elements 5 is supported and driven by a shaft 1 immediately above a cup-like shroud 12, the rim of which is close to the stirring elements. Vertical radially disposed baffles 6 formed integrally with a base 7 and mounted on the floor 8 of the cell, which may be of the type described in Specification 471,683, are arranged to have a space between them and the impeller and are spaced from a wear ring 10 protecting the cell wall 9. Air is introduced into the shroud beneath the impeller through pipes 13, 15 and a non-return valve 16. The wear ring 10 may be protected by a covering, e.g. of rubber.
