Abstract

591,380. Cooling cylinders. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. May 7,1945, No. 11535. Convention date, May 8, 1944. [Class 7 (ii)] The inner surface of a cylinder head has a hyperbolical or conical shape and is cooled by straight passages 5 extending through the wall, parallel to 'the straight lines generating the inner surface, to a collecting space 6, which preferably has a strengthened ridge 16. Further passages 7 more steeply inclined, are arranged so that the axes of three adjacent passages lie at the corners of transverse isosceles triangles. The head joint is protected by a ring 8. Inclined passages 11 which extend through the lirier flange are connected to the passages 5; 7 by a ring 13 having vertical passages 14 therein, provision being made to prevent leakage past the joint from reaching the sealing surface between the head and liner.
