591,218. Ground anchors &c. FREYSSINET, E. Feb. 21, 1941, No. 2401. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1939. [Class 45] [Also in Group X] Reinforcing wires 8, 9, surrounded by a metal-walled or other resistant cavity, shown as conical, in a concrete mass 2, are spread out, tensioned and compressed against the wall of the cavity strongly enough to produce a .friction capable of holding the tension on the wires, after the external pull is released. The compression may be effected by the expansion of a flexible metallic bag in which is pumped a settable plastic, or, preferably, as shown, by driving in a cone 16 of hard or armoured concrete after the tensioning of the wires. The wires are held in pairs in notches in an annular plate 13 secured against a bearing plate 12, for a hydraulic jack, the ends being enclosed by conical casings 19, 20, of brass or tin-plate, between which concrete is poured to secure the ends in position. During tensioning, the ends are held by wedges 27 in lugs 28 in the cylinder of the jack. The conical cavity in the concrete is surrounded by embedded wire coils 3 and the stresses produced in securing the reinforcing wires are transmitted to the whole of the slab by reinforcements 25, 26.
