Abstract
591,115. Reinforced beams formed of precast units. TRUSSED CONCRETE STEEL CO., Ltd., and GREEN, D. H. Feb. 2, 1945, No. 2726. [Class 20 (iv)] In a method of constructing beams, e.g., for floors or roofs from a series of precast units of concrete, stone &c. placed end to end, e.g., on a level sand bed 14 and reinforced by metal bars embedded with mortar in longitudinal grooves therein, the units 15 are located between a pair of vertically movable lining members 10 and the bars 16 and mortar 17, Fig. 3, are applied to form the beam. A bed of sand or the like 22 is then cast on top and another beam 23 is similarly formed resting thereon, the lining members then being raised and the steps repeated until a pile of beams is formed which are left to mature. In the form shown, the members 10 are slidably supported on horizontal bars 6 slidable :in turn on the upright members 1 of a removable tubular steel framework 5, and raised by a chain'and sprocket mechanism. The lining members may comprise angle-iron beams, Fig. 3, with a timber packing 11 providing a step 11 where the units 15 have projecting bottom flanges as described in Specification 569,628, this step providing a profile for the sand beds 22, and being cambered where cambered beams are required. According to the Provisional Specification the lining members are used in forming the ground sand bed, and packing plates or blocks may be attached where the beam units are irregular.
