Abstract
591,003. Weather excluders for windows. KING, H. A. Dec. 21, 1944, No. 25650. Convention date, Jan. 21. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A rain-deflecting shield 44 for use with vertically pivoted windows 28 of a vehicle comprises an elongated half-dished rubber or like member which is adapted to be secured so as to be in wiping engagement with the forward base part of the window when it is opened. As shown, as applied to the front door of a motor vehicle, the window is in two parts, the rear portion, not shown, slides vertically and the front portion 28 pivots about a vertical axis 40, Fig. 2, and has a curved forward edge which opens inwardly of the vehicle. The shield 44 conforms to the shape of the curved edge and is provided with a thin bounding edge 50 sufficiently flexible for the bottom edge of the window to pass over and is secured to the inner moulding 38 of the door by screws 46 or rubber studs which pass through holes in the moulding. The shield may be formed integral with the window sealing means and in a modification, Fig. 11, the shield 44b may be formed integral with the moulding 38b, the bounding edge of the shield being provided with a thin rubber strip 50b over which a flexible wiper 80 on the window may pass. Drain holes 60b in the window seal and a corresponding hole 62b in the door may be provided.
