Abstract
590,656. Spark-gaps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and KNIGHT, H. DE B. Oct. 4, 1944, No. 19040. [Class 39 (i)] A hermetically sealed spark-gap has a filling of hydrogen at a pressure of between one and two atmospheres, the product of the gas pressure and the distance of separation between the electrodes being such as to give a breakdown voltage of upwards of two kilovolts. The electrodes consist of two flat metal discs of about half an inch in diameter arranged parallel to one another, the active surfaces of which may be formed of an intimate mixture of metal and insulating particles as described in Specification 580,655. The envelope may be of glass or ceramic material. Specification 574,452 also is referred to.
