582,995. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., KNIGHT, H. DE B., and HERBERT, L. June 12, 1944, No. 11253. [Class 39 (i)] An enclosed spark-gap having two electrodes 5 spaced by a member 2 of glass or ceramic material, as described in Specification 574,452, is so constructed that a gap or gaps occur between the electrodes and the spacing member which sets up an initial brush or corona discharge causing pre-ionisation in the neighbourhood of the gap. The gaps may be formed by cutting away discs 1 on which the electrodes are mounted or by notching the spacing member 2. Specification 580,655 also is referred to.
