Abstract

590,313. Ignition magnetos. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., GRIFFITHS, L., and FRANKLIN, S. H. April 18, 1945, No. 9730. [Class 35] A combined generator and ignition unit for motor vehicles, has an insulating housing on one side of which is mounted the generator whose securing bolts act as earth terminals and on the other side an ignition coil, contact breaker, condenser and an automatic cut-out, the housing being mounted on the engine casing. As shown for a twin cylinder engine a generator armature is mounted on the crank shaft which also carries a cam 4 operating an interrupter 11, and a gear wheel 5 driving a distributer wheel 19. The generator brushes 15 are connected to the cut-out (not shown) or an A.C. generator and rectifier may be used. The cam may contain an advance governor and the unit may be driven by gearing from the engine. Specification 382,339 is referred to.
