Abstract
590,081. Feeding sheets. DEXTER FOLDER CO. Jan. 30, 1945, No. 2379. Convention date, June 1, 1944. [Class 100 (i)] In a sheet-feeding apparatus a preliminary separation of the sheets in a pile is effected by .blasts of air directed from slits 35, 36 in boxes 32, 33 arranged at the rear edges of the pile and acting to deliver vertical jets of air of substantial length towards adjacent sides of the pile. The boxes are supported by a 'tube 37 which can slide feely in a casing 22 adjustable transversely on supports which are adjustable longitudinally on side frames 17 of the feeder. The boxes 32, 33 are supported by a bent wire 40 which rests on the corner of the pile, and assists in holding the corners of the sheets in a preliminary separated condition when jets of air are directed thereon. The sheets are finally separated by oscillating suction devices 20 operated by a cam 23, and the air pressures in the boxes 32, 33 and the separators 20 are controlled by a valve such as is described in Specification 438,480. The box 33 is guided by bars 42, 43, which also act as baffles to direct the air into the spaces between the sheets, and other baffles may be used. The slits 35, 36 extend above the pile level to a certain extent, but are placed mainly against the top layers of the pile. Specification 567,519 also is referred to.
