Abstract
327,619. Thomlinson, W. G. May 16, 1929. Sheet - separators. -A suction nozzle for feeding paper sheets to printing- machines &c. is constructed of a cylindrical block 1 formed with a series of longitudinal passages 2 merging into an opening connected to a tube 3 leading to a flexible vacuum tube. The block 1 is provided with a perforated sheet-engaging sole 4 which is arched so as to pucker sheets adhering to the sole. The block 1 is fitted with a sliding sleeve 5 moving in a fixed sleeve 7, and the sleeve normally covers the gaps at the side of the arch and prevents inrush of air which would destroy the vacuum within the arch. The sleeve 5 is raised relatively to the block 1, by the puckering of the sheet, and the vacuum is cut off prior to the delivery of the separated sheet. A blast of air assists in the separation of the sheet.
