Abstract
589,807. Electric resistance heaters. BERRY, A. F. June 29, 1944, No. 12379. [Class 39 (iii)] A sheathed heating resistance is partly embedded in a refractory cellular mass so as to project slightly from the surface, which is coated with vitreous material of high thermal conductivity. The mass may be formed by setting a mixture of hard material, e.g., burnt diatomaceous clay and a finely divided cement with water in the presence of a reagent, e.g., hyposulphite of soda which will produce a gas imparting the cellular structure to the mass, which may contain vitrifiable particles. The surface coating may be vitreous enamel reinforced by thin metal srips or containing metal particles, e.g., of nickel or nickel-chromium alloy, and is set by heat applied at least partly by the heat-. ing element. The cellular mass may be " blown " into a tray and sealed therein by vitrification and coated with enamel, and tubular elements may be so formed. Specifications 329,291, [Class 22], and 365,154, [Group V], are referred to.
