Abstract

The decorative component is for use in domestic heaters with burners, giving an incandescent effect when exposed to the flames and heat. A quantity of raw ceramic material or refractory clay is mixed with fibrous ceramic or mineral material, and then spread in a layer over a supporting base, the surface being made rough with a number of sharp protrusions, after which it is baked. The fibrous material can be such as to become incandescent when heated to 950 deg.C, while its melting point is above 1500 deg.C. It can be a mixture of glass fibre, ceramic and asbestos.
