Abstract

588,711. Resilient mountings. LORD MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 16, 1943, No. 19112. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1942. [Class 108 (iii)] Relates to a resilient engine mounting unit comprising a body 8 of resilient material extending axially beyond a receiving member or lug 5, a pressure member or washer 10 secured against the outer face of the body 8 and an assembly device or bolt 14 extending axially from the washer 10'through the body and lug 5. According to the invention, the bolt 14 is spaced from the lug 5 and body 8 so as to be free to move laterally relatively thereto, such movement stressing in shear that part of the body extending axially beyond the lug. As shown, an overhanging aircraft engine, having opposed radial cylinders, is secured to a ring support 1 by means of a number of resilient mountings each comprising a receiving member 5, such as one of the lugs on the engine, having oppositelyfacing tapered sockets 6 connected by a central opening 7, resilient elements 8 each bonded to a pressure plate 10, a spacing sleeve 13 between the plates 10, and a bolt 14 extending through the plates 10 and sleeve 13 and through a bracket 16 secured to the supporting ring 1. The apertures 9 in the resilient elements 8 and the opening 7 are larger than the sleeve 13 to allow the lateral movement of the bolt relatively to the resilient elements.
