Abstract

588,250. Making dowel pins. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., and BACK, J. A. June 20, 1944, No. 11699. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Shrinking hoops; drawing ; drawing and forging dies.-A dowel pin A has a ring C compressed into a groove therein. The pin is placed in a die D, bolted on a holder E, and is supported by a pin G<1> carried by an ejector operated by a spring H. The ring C is placed in position on the pin A. correct location being determined by a pin O<1> in the punch M, having an attached hardened member K with a flange K<2> corresponding to the flared mouth of the die D. The ring C is forced by the flange K<2> into the annular space D<3> in the die, thus contracting the ring into the groove B. The pin O<1> at the same time depresses the pin A, maintaining the correct relative position of ring and pin, and compressing the ejector spring H. The sides of the groove B may be undercut. The dowel pin forms the subject-matter of Specification 588,288, [Group XXV].
