[Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group II] A vessel for melting metal or for containing molten metal, having means for attaching a pipe thereto in an airtight manner for the delivery of metal from the vessel to the pipe, comprises joint surfaces which are pressed together and have in one or both of them a groove 13 completely surrounding the inner parts 11 of the abutting surfaces and filled with a reducing gas by connection, through pipe 18, to a supply under sufficient pressure to provide a small escape 22 to the atmosphere.
