Abstract

588,115. Spectacle frames. HADLEY CO., Ltd., and PETTICAN, E. A. Jan. 29, 1945, No. 2281. [Class 97 (i)] Moulded , or tortoiseshell eye-rims and side-arms are secured together to form spectacle frames by metal bridge pieces or side-arm hinges to which are attached, as by soldering, internally tapped tubes axially split so as to be expanded by screws to grip the walls of holes in the rims or arms into which they are fitted. As shown, eye-rims 1 are united by a metal bridge piece 2 which carries at each side two backwardly-extending tubular members 3 split axially and fitted into holes drilled in the rims. Countersunk screws 6 are screwed into the members 3 from the rear so as to be invisible when the frames are in use. The construction for the side-arms is similar, but the screws are visible in use.
