Abstract

587,717. Casting pillars in situ. CLARK, C. Nov. 7, 1944, No. 16424/43. [Class 20 (ii)] Shuttering for casting in situ concrete or like piers or pillars to receive walling, partitions or the like comprises pressed metal sheets 35, 38, each sheet having a flange 37 or 40 on one edge to receive and overlap an edge of an adjacent sheet when the sheets are assembled, the sheets which are to form the faces of the pillar that are to receive the walling members having spaced projections 36 on the inner surface to form vertical recesses in the cast pillar. The walling members 41, 42 may either be precast or cast in situ. The shuttering may be erected by being assembled as a lining in a light metal framework, which may be constituted by corner uprights of angle section held together by horizontal struts. Drain passages may be formed in the pillars by using a cylindrical rod or tube which is greased for withdrawal as each succeeding part of the pillar is cast. This is for use where gutters are to be connected to the drain passages, as described in Specification 573,038.
